STARTING XI – MARCH 6TH & 7TH

GK – Marco Amelia (Genoa) – Amelia kept a clean sheet against Inter Milan… at Inter Milan.  Enough said!

DF – Phil Jagielka – (Everton) – He’s been injured for a long time but played like he hasn’t missed a beat.  He could very well be an outside bet for England’s World Cup squad.

DF – Cisma Domingo – (Almeria) – Domingo nearly helped his team overcome the mighty FC Barcelona with the opening goal in their 2-2 draw.

DF Zat Knight – (Bolton Wanderers) – Knight’s fantastic display at center half, kept the defense well organized in the latter stages of their match against West Ham United.  When the home side was pushing for the equalizer late on, it ultimately never came.

DF – John Terry – (Chelsea) – Terry scored Chelsea’s 2nd goal and capped it off with a fantastic celebration.  Whoever doubted his leadership qualities or his commitment to Chelsea and England…  Well, you shouldn’t be reading this blog.

MF – Lionel Messi – (Barcelona) – Without him, the unthinkable could have happened, but they do have him… and once again, he proved to be their savior.

MF – Theo Walcott – (Arsenal) – After a difficult mid-week game for England, he showed us why he can be one of the greats. Walcott was solid took his goal beautifully.

MF – Mikel Arteta – (Everton) – Two goals and forced an OG too.  Everton have missed him badly… if Donovan helped the blues when they were down, Arteta is the icing on the cake.  He’s definitely wasted when it comes to international football… Spain is so greedy when it comes to midfield players.

ST – John Carew – (Aston Villa) – Carew notched a hat-trick and helped guide his side to the semi finals of the FA Cup.  With another Wembley appearance, Carew made sure that Reading didn’t get another big boy scalp like they did in previous rounds.

ST – Frederic Piquionne – (Portsmouth) – His double let Pompey make it through to the FA Cup Semi’s.  With the cloud surrounding the club, he has helped bring some sunshine back to the south coast strugglers.

ST – Liedson – (Sporting Lisbon) – 4 goals! We rest our case.
