JAVIER AGUIRRE STEPS DOWN AS MEXICO COACH
Javier Aguirre resigned this afternoon as Mexico national team head coach after losing to Argentina in the rounf of 16.
“It’s very clear. The first person responsible is me. I believe that I have to resign my job,” Aguirre said. “It’s the most honest solution, the fairest and it’s something I have to do.”
World Cup 2010 was his second run as a national team coach after qualifying for the 2002 World Cup, where they were eliminated by the U.S. in the round of 16.
Mexico was eliminated by an impressive Argentina squad that has not lost this tournament.
