SJ INTERVIEW WITH ROBBIE FINDLEY – USA NATIONAL TEAM STRIKER

Robbie Findley (4 August 1985) plays striker for Real Salt Lake and the U.S. national team.  This 24 year-old striker is coming off of a season where he scored a crucial goal in Real Salt Lake’s win over the LA Galaxy in the 2009 MLS Cup.  Findley was called up to the USA men’s national team by coach Bob Bradley.  Findley brings the element of speed that is matched by few around the globe.

We at Soccer Jones had the chance to talk with Robbie Findley for an exclusive interview.

What player were you most impressed by that you played against during the World Cup, and what was it that impressed you?

I can’t pinpoint any one player that stood out when I played against them. All of the competition I played against were world class players and definitely deserved to be where they were.

You recently made your World Cup debut.  How do you think playing in the World Cup has changed you as a player?

I think it has helped me as far as international experience goes and I now feel more poised in certain situations. It has also helped me be able to focus and play in hostile atmospheres.

After all of the bad calls made about goals either being allowed or called back this World Cup, do you think that FIFA should start using technology to help referees?

Yeah I definitely believe that they need a goal line referee or some sort of video review to help make the calls.

What was it like in the tunnel before you took the field for your first match against England?

It was amazing! I was standing in the tunnel with players that I have watched growing up. For me to be able to be in that position made me feel really fortunate and let me know to keep pushing because hard work pays off.

What souvenirs did you bring back to the States with you?

I just bought a few things from the gift shop for family and some footage from the safari that we all went on.
