GOLDEN BALL SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

The 10 finalists for the Golden Ball has been released, with the winner set to be announced after the World Cup final this Sunday. The award is for the player that was deemed the best in the tournament.

Here at Soccer Jones we’ve got no complaints about any of the 10, all of which deserve special recognition.

In no particular order, here are the World Cup Golden Ball nominees: David Villa, Xavi, Andres Iniesta (Spain); Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben (Holland); Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mesut Ozil (Germany); Diego Forlan (Uruguay); Asamoah Gyan (Ghana); Lionel Messi (Argentina).

We can’t pick a winner, but we think it will be down to 3 players, David Villa of Spain, Wesley Sneijder of Holland and Diego Forlan of Uruguay.

This world cup was very tricky since the unexpected was expected. I think Arjen Robben and Asamoah Gyan are fit for the award.

No mention of Miroslav Klose? As deadly of a striker as the tournament has seen in a long time.

My vote is for Diego Forlan (uruguay) but I also Like Landon Donovan (USA) an old player who can keep-up with the younger players.

Forlan carried Uruguay on his back and was absolutely brilliant. However, I think it really comes down to the result of the final. If Villa or Sneijder have a big day and lead their country to it's first ever World Cup title, that would have to be the guy for the award.
