FIFA IS KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON THE NIGERIAN SOCCER BAN
FIFA has stated that they will continue to keep a close eye on Nigerian soccer for possible political interference that would keep the team from competing for two years.
Large penalties on Nigerian soccer were ready to be enforced by FIFA if their government went through with their plan to ban play. FIFA rules do not allow any government to interfere with the operation of national soccer federations.
The intent to ban Nigerian soccer for two years came from Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan after his country made an earlier World Cup exit than expected.
