After an early exit made by Brazil two days ago, coach Dunga and his staff were fired this afternoon.
The announcement came via the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF). Most saw this decision coming a mile away. Unlike most countries, Brazil doesn’t just hope to make it out of the group stage. This nation expects to raise the cup above their heads every four years. The Netherlands put an end to this dream two days ago.
Friday morning, Brazil suffered a 2-1 loss to the Netherlands after heading into the second half on top 1-0.
“With the closing of the work cycle that started in August 2006 and ended with the elimination of Brazil from the World Cup in South Africa, the CBF announces the dismissal of the Technical Commission of the Brazilian team,” the federation said in their statement.
The CBF has stated that before the end of July, a new head coach and staff will be appointed.
A new coach will be appointed before the end of the month, CBF said. It has been rumored that potential candidates include: Former Brazilian player Mano Menezes, AC Milan coach Leonardo, and Wanderley Luxemburgo.
For the first time since 1950, Brazil will host the next World Cup in 2014.
