SEATTLE KNOCKS OFF UNION 2-0

SEATTLE – It was cold, rainy, and it was all Seattle for 90 minutes tonight.  Goals netted by Fredy Montero and Brad Evans in the first half would be enough to crush Philly’s hopes of obtaining an opening game win.

In just the 40th minute of the match, Philadelphia Union defender Toni Stahl was ejected after receiving his second yellow card after ramming his knee into Montero’s back during a challenge.  It wasn’t necessarily as dirty of a play as it sounds, but it was still worthy of a yellow card.

The Union only received a few real opportunities to put shots on goal tonight, most of which were through former Seattle Sounder Sebastian Le Toux.

Union coach, Peter Nowack, kept their lineup a secret during the off-season to try and add the element of surprise tonight.  The Union came out in a 4-4-2 lineup with Danny Mwanga starting at attacking mid, which came as a bit of a surprise to many.

Union, welcome to the MLS.  Take this loss on the chin and use it to grow and move on from here.
