SAN JOSE’S IKE OPARA TO UNDERGO SURGERY

Bad news for San Jose Earthquakes fans… rookie defender Ike Opara will have to undergo surgery on his broken left foot which he sustained during Saturday’s loss to the Seattle Sounders.

Opara is expected to go under the knife either later this week or early next week.  When he will return to the field is up for grabs at this point.

During the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Opara went third overall.  Opara won over a starting position during the pre-season and has been a vital part of San Jose’s defense ever since.  Opara’s 2010 MLS performance thus far made him a solid candidate for the 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year.

The loss of Opara is a big hole to fill and could prove costly as San Jose try and keep their playoff hopes alive.
