REAL SALT LAKE SIGN COSTA RICA’S SABORIO
With the loss of Real Salt Lake striker, Yura Movsisyan, to Randers FC, the 2009 MLS Cup champions filled their hole today after signing Costa Rican national team forward, Alvaro Saborio.
Saborio makes his way to the MLS from Swiss Super League (first division) squad FC Sion. He has already joined RSL in Charleston, SC, where they are currently competing in the Carolina Challenge Cup.
“I’m excited to join Real Salt Lake and look forward to a great season ahead,” said Saborío. “I’m busy learning about the other players, the coaching staff and the way the club functions, and once I become comfortable in the team I expect good things to happen.”
Saborio represented Costa Rica on the senior level 55 times and has netted an impressive 22 goals. He also helped Costa Rica qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals in Germany and made two appearances in group play.
Real Salt Lake capped off the 2009 season with a big win over the LA Galaxy to capture the MLS Cup Champ title. Look for them to come out with guns blazin’ this season as they defend their crown.
