MLS WEEK 2 BEST XI

GK – BOUNA COUNDOUL (NY Red Bulls) – Coundoul kept a clean sheet for the second straight week against two of the MLS’ best teams… the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders.  This is not an easy task to accomplish, but let’s see if he can make it a perfect 3 and 0  as the Red Bulls look to take on the Chivas next week.

D – TIM REAM (NY Red Bulls) – This rookie was the backbone of the New York defense during their big 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders this weekend.  Look for Ream to continue to make some noise in the MLS this season as last year’s worst team now sits 2-0 and has not yet allowed a goal.

D – MIKE CHABALA (Houston Dynamo) – Chabala was able to push forward and create a lot of offense for the Dynamo during their come-from-behind win on Thursday against Real Salt Lake.

D – OMAR GONZALEZ (LA Galaxy) – Gonzalez helped anchor the perfect 2-0 Galaxy on Thursday night.  Last year’s defensive Rookie of the Year award winner will continue his ways as one of the league’s best backs.

M – BRAD DAVIS (Houston Dynamo) – Yes, we know that both goals were scored off of PK’s (one of which was a pretty questionable call), but Davis was the source of life for Houston when RSL came to town last Thursday.  Davis helped push the Dynamo to a 2-1 victory after being down 1-0 at the half.

M – JAVIER MORALES (Real Salt Lake) – Morales continued with his scoring ways by netting an early goal to put the defending champs up 1-0 over Houston.  The Dynamo would later receive two penalty kicks in about two minutes, which would prove too much to handle on the road for RSL.  RSL will host their first match this season as Seattle make their way to SLC.

M – STEVE ZAKUANI (Seattle Sounders) – Zakuani was the source of life for Seattle even though they fell short this weekend to the visiting Red Bulls.  On a number of occasions, Zakuani beat his defender one-on-one creating plays and shots that would unfortunately for the Sounders, not find the net.

F/M – LANDON DONOVAN (LA Galaxy) – Donovan was the Galaxy’s best playmaker on Thursday night and would help the Galaxy achieve yet another three points in the Western Conference standings, making them a perfect 2-0.

F – EDSON BUDDLE (LA Galaxy) – Buddle’s early and late goals against rival Chivas, would be enough to notch another three points for the Galaxy.

F – MACOUMBA KANDJI (NY Red Bulls) – Kandji netted the game’s lone goal on the road in Seattle this weekend, which would make the Red Bulls perfect on the season thus far.  Winning on the road is hard.  Winning on the road in Seattle is about as hard as it gets in the MLS.

F – KENNY MANSALLY (New England Revolution) – Mansally netted both goal in the Revolution’s big win over D.C. United this weekend.  As predicted by SJ, the Revs toppled D.C. on the road.  Hopefully, this was a wake-up call for D.C. as they have now given up six goals and are yet to net a goal this season.
