SONG RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTIE

Cameroonian legend Rigobert Song has ended his international career which started way back in 1993. Up until 2009 he had been a regular for his nation, but the 34-year-old was seen as a bench player when coach Paul Le Guen took over.

While qualifying for the 2010 World Cup he was released from captaining his country, and at the actual tournament he only played the last 17 minutes against Holland. Song said, “You have to know when to quit when the time comes. I leave with pride”.

The centre back ends his career with 147 caps to his name, he also led his country to the Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2002.

A career that started with Tonnerre de Yaoundé in 1992, he went on to play for  Metz, Cologne, Lens, Salernitana, Liverpool, West Ham United, and Galatasaray.

He currently still plays in Turkey for Trabzonspor.
