NO WORLD CUP FOR OWEN
Manchester United forward Michael Owen was dealt a killer blow today, as it was confirmed that the hamstring injury he suffered in the Carling Cup final last Sunday will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Owen, who was an outside bet as part of England’s World Cup party, has endured a strange season, used mainly as a substitute, scoring 9 goals in 31 games (20 games from the bench).
The former Liverpool striker helped his cause when he joined United by scoring a dramatic winner against Manchester City. And in almost his last act of the season he scored United’s equalizer in last Sundays Carling Cup final.
Unless Owen can force his way in to regular first team football next season, I feel the former wonderkid will not add to his 40 international goals and thus not breaking Bobby Charlton’s record of 49.
