DONOVAN HOPEFUL TO EXTEND STAY WITH EVERTON

After being named Everton’s Player of the Month in January, Landon Donovan has only continued to stun onlookers with more phenomenal soccer.

Donovan arrived in Liverpool for a 3-month loan and is hoping to extend.  However, it’s not looking like the LA Galaxy are as excited about the idea as Everton fans.

“I have told Galaxy what I want; they know what’s going on and I speak to my manager there often,” Donovan stated in the Telegraph. “Both clubs know how I feel, which is that I would like to stay, though I can’t end the season here, I’d have to go back April 15 at the latest.”

Donovan later went on to state, “If that can be worked out, great. If not, then the Galaxy are my team and I’m very grateful for the chance I had here. It would be bittersweet either way.  I’d like to go back home and start with my team-mates, I miss them, because I have played with them for three, four, five years in LA, if I leave here I will be excited to go home, but it would be sad to leave.”

Landon’s trip to the EPL has definitely helped in his preparation for South Africa this summer.  Playing world-class soccer during the MLS off-season has done nothing but help him be that much more ready to take the pitch this summer.

“It’s absolutely improved me. It’s impossible not to. I have learnt a lot technically, tactically, how to keep myself motivated. It absolutely puts me in a stronger position for the World Cup. But the biggest thing is having the confidence I can play against anybody and not fear anyone.”

When it comes to the “should Landon return or stay” dilemma, I’d like to see him stay for the sake of becoming even better prepared for the 2010 World Cup.  However, the MLS and his fans will all miss his presence if he decides to extend his stay with Everton.
