Teams like of  Manchester United, Liverpool,  Bayern Munich,and Juventus have been linked with the talented 24-year-old, who has spent his whole career with PSV. He  feels his time has come to play in another league.

The Netherlands international midfielder looks set to be the subject of a bidding war in the January transfer window after telling the Eredivisie outfit he would not sign a new deal at the club.

Afellay told sport-promotion.nl, “I feel that it’s time to go abroad. I have had a great time in PSV and I still enjoy playing here.

“But every footballer wants to try to reach the highest level possible. I think now is right to make the leap. I will of course remain one hundred percent committed to the club (until I leave).

“This seems logical because I have tremendous respect for the fans. Wherever I play, I’ll always take them in my hearts.

“But they deserve clarity about my future and I’m glad I have now given it to them. It was a huge weight off my shoulders.”

We believe that he might actually wait it out until the Summer. With no fee involved he will likely be able to negotiate bigger wages. Either way, the guy has a lot of talent, and we’re excited to see his progression when he steps up to a bigger league.

While it’s a bit of a shock that Real Madrid are looking at Toivonen, we don’t think it’s out of reach. The Swede is completely different than anything else they have on their books and the fact that he is just as comfortable in midfield is a definite plus. Also Madrid coach, Jose Mourniho has been less than impressed with the attitude of Karim Benzema, who has been a long term target for Manchester United.

Having only two days left of the transfer window, and the fact that Ola Toivonen was left out of the PSV squad at the weekend, only adds fuel to the fire.

24-year-old Toivonen was also on the score sheet recently for his country, Sweden in a 3-0 win against Scotland. He is quietly building up quite a reputation in Europe. A fee in the region of £12m is thought to be what PSV are holding out for, but Liverpool are thought to be unwilling to pay over £10m for the Swedes services.

A swap deal involving Dutch international is thought to suit PSV also, but Liverpool are keen on keeping the attacker, so that was a non-starter. Toivonen is can play in a couple of positions, not only can he be a target man, be he’s comfortable as a second striker or in midfield.

As for Toivonen’s club team-mate Carlos Salcido joining him at Liverpool, that is news to the bosses at Eindhoven. A spokesman said, “We don’t know Liverpool’s intentions about Carlos Salcido. He is a new name on the page.”

30-year-old Salcido is a Mexican international, with huge experience and versatility, a left footer who usually plays left back, but is comfortable right across the back line.

Journey man forward, Hossam Mido, has moved from Championship team Middlesbrough back to Ajax. Mido really made his name at Ajax and the 27-year-old has gone back to the Sons of the Gods to add depth up front for the Amsterdam outfit.
The fact he’s had a torrid time of late in England, on big money too, is good reason for Middlesbrough to be happy to get him off the wage bill, although they might be a little annoyed at not picking up a fee for him. On the other hand, Ajax coach Martin Jol will be delighted to have secured Mido’s services for nothing, especially since funds are tight at Ajax.
On his day, Mido is an explosive striker, but his attitude hasn’t always been professional and his weight has been a problem over the years. This is more than likely his last chance, and Martin Jol could be a good coach for him. Also coming back to the club where he had some success before might help him knuckle down and prove his worth.

Ajax added another piece to their line of defense by signing 36 year-old defender Andre Ooijer.

This all comes as somewhat of a surprise considering Ooijer has had two stints with arch-rivals PSV Eindhoven.  In betwen his two terms with PSV, Ooijer spent three years in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers.

The experienced Dutch defender has tallied more than 50 caps with the Holland national team and most recently competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, where his squad lost to Spain in extra time.
