Rimando, I Wasn’t Impressed With His Debut
I really really hope this isn’t a sign of things to come! ReAL Salt Lakes outfield players were out of this world, Adu had a few runs, Cunningham picked up where he left off last season and I for one wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up the MLSÂ top scorer again, Klein looks fantastic again, working hard and running up and down the right side, Ballouchy looked comfortable with 2 sitting midfielders behind him, he attacked well and used the ball better than i’d seen in the whole of the previous season, and what can we say about Kreis? The new position suited him down to the ground, always involved and ready for any kind of pull back so he could test the keeper from long range.
The reason I said “I really really hope this isn’t a sign of things to come” is because Nick Rimando was very poor in my estimation, I think we have a right to blame him for the loss of two points, I’m not going to start a knee jerk reaction, and I hope it was debut nerves and he comes out and helps us into the playoffs.
The first goal from Kenny Cooper, it was a weak shot and a weak right wrist from Rimando to let the ball slip in, the FC Dallas injury time equalliser was all about letting your centrebacks deal with the threat, and the reason the keeper stays on his line is because of the exact outcome…….. Rimando came out into no mans land, without speed or purpose, got no where near the ball and the ball sailed into an empty net, a ball that would have been comfortably caught.
You might say, well what about the long range shot he tipped over the bar? If he wasn’t on the short size then he could have probably caught the ball as well, John Ellinger has said something to the affect of “try keep the ball as far away from our own goal as possible” and on this evidence I back his claim!
I hope Rimando comes out fighting and proves me wrong, we only just missed out on last years playoffs, and I strongly feel it was down to the dodgy goalkeeping of Garlick, it would be sad and fraustrating if the same thing happens again.
